Simulated Game

Simulated game shooting offers an experience that closely replicates a traditional driven day, blending the excitement of clay pigeon shooting with the authenticity of a real game shoot. Each drive is carefully designed to mirror classic game shooting, with clays released in lifelike patterns and flight paths that emulate partridge, pheasant and grouse. The result is a challenging, engaging experience that allows participants to test their shooting skills, refine their timing, and sharpen their focus in a realistic sporting environment.

How It Works

On a simulated shoot day at Ben Alder Estate, two Guns, or one Gun and a loader, typically share each peg, butt, or hide.

Rather than standing alone, participants shoot in pairs, taking turns to load and shoot throughout each round of clays. This turn-taking system mirrors the rhythm of a traditional driven day, keeping the pace lively, the atmosphere relaxed, and ensuring both Guns enjoy equal time in action.

Making a Day of It

After a safety briefing and peg drawing, the day begins with a driven partridge at numbered pegs, followed by a driven grouse drive from the grouse butts.

Mid-morning, guests break for elevenses at the duck pond, before continuing with a duck flight as a warm-up to the final high pheasant drive.

At the close of shooting, everyone gathers at the Strathmashie Lunch Hut to enjoy a traditional shoot lunch.
